The Albanian and Azerbaijani government have signed an agreement that
gives green light to the study of the feasibility for the gasification
of Albania. This is the first step towards starting an important
process, declared the Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, during a
press release.

“In the future, Albania will really profit from gas. This means a diversification of the energy resources in our country, and certainly more security from the energy point of view. We have held intensive cooperation with the government of Azerbaijan during this one year and a half in government. Very soon we will create the first economic cooperation committee between Albania and Azerbaijan, which will discuss about other economic cooperations”, the Minister declared.

The Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan, Natig Aliyev, declared that this agreement shows that the relations between the two countries are getting better each day.

“We are happy that together with Albania we are making possible many huge gasification projects even in other countries. All these projects mount up to an investment of 45 billion USD. We trust that such projects are a security for the gasification of all Southeastern Europe. We don’t want to simply brings gas to Albania. We want to go beyond that and distribute gas in the Albanian territory. To achieve this, the Azerbaijani gas company will start working this January in planning a master-plan for Albania”.

A few minutes before signing this agreement, the Azerbaijani delegation was received by Prime Minister Edi Rama, with whom they discussed about assistance from Azerbaijani companies in improving Albania’s fuel processing capacities.
