The negotiations for returning the opposition in parliament with the
main condition of “decriminalizing the Parliament” are on a right path,
but it is uncertain if the Democratic Party will be in Parliament for
the last session of this year.

Even the negotiator from the European left parties, Knut Fleckenstein, who met with Lulzim Basha, is not able to say this yet. The only part of the meeting that the rapporteur for Albania could announce publicly was optimism.

“I had good talks with the Parliament speaker and Prime Minister yesterday, and with Mr.Basha today. I am really optimistic that we will find a good solution in the next week to bring all parties in Parliament”, Fleckenstein declared.

When asked if the DP will be in Parliament in the next week, he declared: “This is what I hope and I am very optimistic”.

When asked if there was concrete progress that could bring the opposition in Parliament on December 24th, Basha didn’t answer, but he didn’t seem discontent.

“The concrete events are the arrival of Mr.Fleckenstein and Mr.Kukan in the next week, the interest shown by the European institutions about the bad democratic situation in Albania, and the will of the Democratic Party to progress with decriminalizing the Parliament and making it continue by respecting the Constitutional Court verdicts”, Basha declared.

The agreement could be as a parliamentary resolution, but for this they need to wait for the visit of the representative from the right wing. Until then, the key word for the agreement, as the opposition sees it, is political will.

“The wrong political will brought the situation to this point. I hope that the political will shall end this situation”, Basha declared.

However the negotiations go, the next political decision will be taken by the Democratic Party forums, among which is the parliamentary group with which Mr.Basha will meet after Eduard Kukan will leave Tirana.
