The Economic Crime Sector in Korce arrested three representatives of the
RD2 company, which was tasked to clean the Pogradec-Qafe Thana road.
They are accused of financial fraud, failure to complete the works and
avoiding contractual obligations. A specialist at the Road Authority was
also arrested for not surveying the company.

A few days ago, a driver said for Top Channel that Qafe-Thana roads were full of ice, all because of the careless behavior. A few kilometers from there, in Macedonia, where the weather was the same, the roads were much safer.

The Minister of Transportation visited the site to verify the situation, and yesterday was announced the arrest of two directors of the company that was contracted for opening the road and throwing salt on it.

Police say that the RD2 has not thrown salt on the road and has no documentation to prove that they have thrown it. The company has also not paid insurance for its employees.

Police arrested Alban Abazi, resident of the Bucimas commune, Pogradec; Artan Hoxha, from Korca, supervisor of the Southern Region Directory; Xhevdet Mulaj, from Tropoja, specialist at the Southern Region Directory; Arlint Berberi, Bucimas, suspected of falsifying documents.

The company has been contracted by the Southern Region Directory of Gjirokaster. The police is investigating this procedure. Qafe Thana was one of the most problematic areas. A similar situation might be seen in other national areas. A few centimeters of snow are enough to show that many of the agreements for maintaining the roads from ice and snow are fictive.
