The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, expressed the government’s
determination to go ahead with the fight against electricity,
considering the cooperation with the police as a life and death fight of
Albania, as he said.

“For as long as the energy theft is equal to any othertheft, it is condemned by the Criminal Code. There is no alibi for anyone, rich or poor, minister or common citizen, businessman or disabled”, Rama declared.

Rama said that the result of the operation that has been going on for the past two months, showed that those who steal are not from the poor categories. There are businessmen or people with considerable revenues, even public employees.

“The state police with 10000 employees had more than 5000 debtors, when the operation started. They were sent to look for those who didn’t pay, but they didn’t pay their own. Only in december we have generated 6.6 million USD of returned debts. I want to appeal those remaining that they have time to pay the debts until February 28th”, Rama declared.

The Minister of Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, and the Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, said that this operation is establishing the rule of law, and the work will continue.

“100 million USD collected. More than 7% of losses in the network. The biggest in the history of the past 10-12 years. It is not everything, but it is something very important, because it stopped a falling spiral and started a return back to legality”, Gjiknuri declared.
