The Ministry of Culture introduced this Saturday a project for turning
the “House of Leaves” into a museum. The “Shtepia e Gjetheve” was used
during the communist regime by the former Secret Service.

The Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, declared that this museum is a witness of Albania’s history.

“This is a unique museum in Europe”, the Minister of Culture declared.

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, was present in this introduction. He underlined that this building had the most sophisticated equipment for the time. The regime didn’t save money for the surveillance technology.

“Part of our project is that of opening the files of the communist regime. This has turned into a draft-law that will be discussed in Parliament during the weeks to come. This is a model of confrontation with the past, without using it for the internal political and social fight, but by making the past available to all of us. This guarantees us that this history will not be repeated in the future. Only Enver Hoxha was immune from the surveillance. Everyone else was afraid they could be under surveillance, tortured and then executed”, Rama declared.
