President: We must accelerate justice reform

The judiciary reform has gathered the interested parties in a meeting,
including the President, the Chairman of the Venice Commission and
Albanian Mps.

The Chairman of the Venice Commission, Gianni Buquicchio, appealed politicians to engage seriously and respect each other’s spaces.

“The majority should not abuse with its power, while the opposition should sit and do its job. Blocking the parliament means a non-functional opposition. There should be more balance between parties for their rights, and we are ready to intermediate for the judiciary reform”, Buquicchio declared.

President Nishani considered the judiciary reform as a priority. He valued the assistance offered by the Commission of Venice.

Nishani appealed for drafting a serious reform that will remove party militantism from the judiciary institutions.

“The Venice Commission is a guarantee for the credibility of the reform. There is no other way besides the juduciary reform, since it is the base of functionality for Europe. We need new criteria for accelerating this reform, without which Albania could go to the brink of fatality. The reform must detach political militants from institutions”, the President declared.
