The investigations for the Mayor of Vlore, Shpetim Gjika, have entered
an intensive phase. Three prosecutors and two judiciary police officers
visited Gjika’s office this Tuesday, according to sources that are close
to the investigation.

These sources say that the Prosecutors have seized the entire official documentation of the Mayor, while they have seized the 11-store building for which they say it is illegal.

Gjika was arrested last Friday, accused of issuing illegal construction permits in favor of businessman Artur Haxhi. Together with him was arrested also the Chief of the Territory Inspection Police, Doriana Sulaj.

On the same day, the Mayor was hospitalized in Vlore due to heart problems. One day later he was sent to a more specialized hospital to Tirana.

On Monday, the Vlore Prosecutor, Ramadan Troci, asked the Prison Directory to explain how Shpetim Gjika was removed from the prison cells and sent to a private hospital in Tirana.

While the Court gave only a measure that bounds Gjika to appear in Court, sources from the local prosecution say that they will appeal the decision and will request an arrest measure for Gjika.
