Dinko Cvitan, the Croatian Prosecutor General, entered the Prosecution
of Serious Crimes premises in Tirana without any special security. His visit comes
in a time when corruption in our country is being investigated as a
serious crime, but only one former judge has been sentenced so far.

In the training that lasted wio hours, the Croatian Prosecutor spoke in front of the Albanian Prosecutors who investigate crimes of high-rank officials, such as corruption or power abuse and spoke about his experience.

Cvitan’s name has been heard even outside of Croatia, after the arrest of the former Prime Minister, Ivo Sanader, and the former Mayor of Zagreb, two very important and influenced people.

“Those who make these investigations need to be the right people, because this process requires persistence and self-denial”, Cvitan declared.

The Prosecutor General advised that several institutions need to unite and cooperate for having the rights results.

Taking the investigations against the former Croatian PM as an example, Cvitan said that everything started with some media reports. Journalists reported that Sanader wore expensive watches, the cheapest of which was 100.000 EUR.

For this reason, we started the investigations and the difficult part was fidning the evidence.

“We had good cooperation with the Tax Directory and the Police. Then we demanded a removal of his immunity and asked the Court to make his arrest”, Cvitan declared.

After this, Sanader received two sentences and Croatia joined the EU.
