Hahn meets Nishani: Judiciary reform, key element of democracy

The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, received a visit of the EU
Commissioner for Neighboring and Enlargement negotiations, Johannes
Hahn, who is in an official visit to our country.

Nishani noted that the key word of this process remains the reform and the strong political will for implementing it with an European spirit.

The President focused on the judiciary reforms, which are one of the key priorities for the accession talks. By valuing the support of the European partners, such as the EU Commission, Parliament, Delegation in Tirana, EURALIUS, etc, the President said that they are specially important in the judiciary reform. Nishani underlined the necessity of including all actors and operators in the judiciary reforms, especially the Commission Venice.

“This reform must progress with determination, together with the fight against organized crime and corruption, by guaranteeing Commissioner Hahn that we will support any effort that goes in this direction”.

Commissioner Hahn underlined that the judiciary reform is a key element of democracy and that it values the mutual respect of the involved actors, and it is very important for a stable success.

Mr.Hahn declared that although consensus should not be a goal of its own, the respecting of the Constitution and the reforms are a necessity, and what everyone expects from Albania.

Referring to the ambition for opening the EU accession negotiations, Hahn declared that the place of Western Balkan is in the EU, but the standards are not negotiable. He says that deadlines are out of place, since anything depends on the performance of each country.
