Pjerin Xhuvani, Director of the Regional Fund for Medicament
Reimbursement, was arrested by order of the Prosecution. He was under
investigation for the fraud with fictive bills, causing a 56 million ALL
damage.

The Prosecution says that the charges are about the reimbursement of medicaments in four pharmacies: “Lunder Pharmacy”, “Nutrimed 2012”, “Berzhite” and “Adelina”.

These four pharmacies had huge fluctuations with the reimbursement values from month to month. The total value mounts up to 55.9 million ALL.

The investigations showed that the fraud was about medicaments used for serious diseases. Investigators found that three of those pharmacies were even emptied, while the one named “Adelina” did not operate in Albania.

Verifications showed that none of the 97 doctors had given a prescription with reimbursement for the patients coming out of the Fund. Seven people are under investigation, two officials at the Regional Directory of the Fund of the Compulsory Health Care in Tirana, and five pharmacy managers in Tirana.
