The EU Ambassador to Tirana, Romana Vlahutin, declared in today’s
meeting for the analyze of the judiciary system in Albania that it
should start hitting high-rank corruption.

“No one should feel they are untouchable. Judges who do not work with professionalism must leave”, Vlahutin declared.

She added that the judiciary reform should foresee that every is equal in front of the law.

“The reform should be deep and thorough. The powers should be divided, without interventions in corruption investigations”, Vlahutin declared.

She added that the special commission for the reform in question is in a stalemate. The US Ambassador, Donald Lu, appealed for a more efficient judiciary in the fight against crime and corruption.

“The judiciary should answer for corruption and be independent from politics. The judiciary should make criminal prosecutions of many serious crimes. Well known names of the organized crime are walking in Tirana without fearing arrests”, Lu declared.

He encouraged the political class to push forward the judiciary reform, which, according to him, might change.

“The judiciary reform might be the most important since the fall of communism. Judges and Corrupted Prosecutors should know that the change is coming”, Lu declared.
