Ricardo Hausmann, on of the world’s renowned economists, says that the new economic profile of Albania must focus on exports.

“It was clear that the country needed a new model of growth, based on the ability to produce things here and export them to the rest of the world. Will this be in agriculture, industry, mining, energy or tourism? This is what we focused more on, the areas that are key to integrate the capacities of Albania and work with the possibilities offered by the global market”, declared Ricardo Hausmann, Director of the Center for International Developments at the “Harvard Kennedy School”.

The Prime Minister said that one of the areas with the biggest export potential is agriculture, and for that he offered a wide package of financing.

“300 million EUR will be credited for agriculture in the next three years, with an average of 100 million each year”, Rama said.

Besides agriculture, the government also wants to improve the infrastructure through free areas.

The economic growth of Albania in the first two decades of the transition focused on the construction sector and consumption, both elements that were hit hard by the crisis of 2008.
