Klosi assures Dhërmi community over new church construction

Minister of Social Welfare, Blendi Klosi, visited Dhërmi village on Friday together with Himara Mayor Jorgo Goro, to take a closer look at the site where authorities plan to construct a new church. Klosi assured inhabitants the government would seek their understanding after deciding to build the new church and also suggested other sites would be dedicated to religious buildings.
Meanwhile, Himara Mayor Goro presented the project of “St. Athanasius Church” to be constructed on the site of the old church demolished by authorities some days ago. Villagers tried to prevent the demolition even though it was considered an illegal building by the Municipality.
The Albanian Orthodox Church criticized the decision that sparked yet another diplomatic row between Albania and Greece, after Athens compared the action to those of jihadists demolishing ancient world heritage sites in Syria.
