The Albanian Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta, explained his position
regarding the CEZ affair. He considered it a mafia-style political
attack, with collaboration from financial and media exponents.
“It is clear by facts and documents you don’t want to admit. I am talking about those who are supporting the mafia-style political attack. The former Prime Minister has benefited money transfer from DIA for his private company registered at the Registration Center, on his name. This is his right, a right of the institutions that are investigating to see if they have benefited legally orilegally. If you want me to be this Prime Minister, I am sorry for all of you. I also want to declare that DIA and every other company. There are nine other companies, and DIA has collected only 20% of the total debt. 80% has gone to the other companies, most created after two important decisions, one of the ERE for favoring CEZ, with a catastrofic damage, based on the report made by the Director of KESH, Mr.Zeqo. There is another plan to not collect simply the debts of private operators, such as DIA.
Don’t become part of a mafia-style political, media and financial operation. This operation is paid for lies. I declare with maximal responsibility that I have never thought to negotiate in Prague for such companies. I have not been there to dicsuss with CEZ matters that had no connection with the functionality and my capacity as Foreign Minister or Deputy Prime Minister. It is known that many of you have welcomed in their offices Kastriot Ismaili and his partner before 2009. It is known that there have been ties with CEZ. The only certain thing is that Ilir Meta has never intermediated for such an agreement, and has never had interest to do so”, Meta declared.
Ilir Meta commented about two other decisions of the Energy Regulation Entity which favor CEZ and damage KESH (the Albanian Power Corporation).
“I don’t deal with speculation. As regards my responsibilities, five months as Minister of Economy and Energy, Ilir Meta has had only one institution depending from him, KESH, which was led by Engjell Zeqo. Look at all the actions of the KESH director, done with my order as a Prime Minister. The KESH Director has opposed the decision in the first meeting. He opposed it after the meeting was held again, by his request. He reported the decision that was damaging the interests of KESH at the First Instance Court and even in the second instance. These are very concrete facts. Another concrete fact is that there is a lowered price of the energy for CEZ, damaging KESH, by making way to crime and many other companies that have collected 80% of the debts, after DIA collected 20%. Kastriot Ismailaj has never asked any favor from me and I have never made any favor to him”, Meta declared.
The Parliament Speaker explained the reason why he doesn’t resign. He said that if there is a single letter from the former ministers of the opposition justifying his implications, he would resign.
“Don’t become part of this mafia-style operation. Ask my resignation, as the innocent Lulzim Basha said. Why should I resign, just because a journalist of BIRN has lied? The company defending the interests of the Energy Distribution Company has made it clear that they have never mentioned the name of Ilir Meta. Why should I resign, just based on your desire? You’ve got used with me resigning. Do you have any objections about my actions as Parliament Speaker? I don’t have to resign every time you find a liar to give false declarations. Who wants my resignation? Lulzim Basha, who avoided the court by making up absurd medical reports and making up visits abroad. Maybe it is because I haven’t spoken openly before. I am for an international investigation. I am for an American investigation. I support this and it will be included in today’s agenda for voting”, Meta declared.
