US Ambassador: The corrupted are afraid of the reform

The US Ambassador, Donald Lu, said that those afraid from the justice
reform are only corrupted Ministers, criminal MPs, incompetent judges
and bribed Prosecutors. People who want to fill their pockets.

The Ambassador expressed the support of the USA for the current propositions that foresee radical changes in the justice system. He underlined that the reform should be done with open dialogue.

As for the concerns of some justice representatives that the reform could damage the independence of judges, Donald Lu said that no Albanian believes today that the justice system is independen from people with power, bribes and threats from the organized crime.

The EU Ambassador, Romana Vlahutin, sees it as the right time to make a radical justice reform.

“The Albanian justice system needs to go through a very transparent process to see who are the judges and prosecutors who deserve to stay in a system that defends their integrity and professionalism.  But they need to decide who will leave. The best one should win with this reform”, Vlahutin said.

For the opposition, the purpose is the right one, but the instruments are chosen wrong.

“We have verified that the methods are confused and incoherent. This can be regulated not only with our modest contribution, but also in a short time. The Supreme Justice Council should be the highest administrative point of the entire system”, Alibeaj declared.
