First meeting for justice reform

Some things have changed from the meeting without compromise of the justice reform experts, one week ago.

Democrats appeared to be happy after a two-hour meeting between all experts. Enkelejd Alibeaj from the DP held a consensual speech.

“We agreed to proceed with a unique document that will be used as base, the final one approved by the Commission of Venice. Their opinion was clear about the reform that is needed. It should not allow the justice system to be used by one power”, Alibeaj said.

However, the Democrats tried to make it clear that the consensus is very fragile.  When asked if the draft presented by high-level experts was withdrawn, Alibeaj didn’t answer and the experts evaded journalists. But Top Channel has learned that due to the compromise, the experts have worked on the draft presented one week ago.

The initial amends treated Albanians as EU members and gave them the right to chose European Parliament Members. the Venice Commission says that if the Parliament insists to make these amends now, so that the Constitution will not change in the future, it should be clear that these amends will enter in effect only after Albania becomes an EU member.
