26/02/2016 00:00

After three rounds of voting, Hashim Thaci, the former leader of the
PDK,  former Prime Minister of Kosovo, former Deputy Prime Minister and
former Foreign Minister, was able to secure enough votes to be President
of Kosovo.

71 Parliament Members voted in favor of Thaci in the third round, 10 were declared invalid MPs of the Self-Determination. Two MPs of the Self-Determination Movement present in the final round, Ilir Deda and Fisnik Ismajli, seem to have entered only to avoid any vote manipulation, as they considered the second round.

Thaci will take his mandate on April 7th, one day after the mandate of the incumbent President, Atifete Jahjaga, has expired.

The first two rounds failed after many votes were declared invalid. In the second round none of the two candidates were able to receive 2/3rds of the votes.
